More Babies Please! |

More Babies PLEASE!!
Yes, developed economies urgently need more babies. The Agehas given a really good summary of the dire economic circumstances now impacting on developed economies because of the ageing of our populations. Australia is caught up in the spiralling problem:

So go to it prospective mums and dads! More babies please!
This is one reason why the Rudd government’s new paid parental leave legislation is good. It helps mums and dads. The legislation passed parliament late this evening (Thursday 17 June). But they’ve stuffed up! Instead of a simple administrative system, it’s going to be a nightmare in the way it will impact on small business people.
The peak body of small business (COSBOA) have explained why in a press release. In part, they explain:
“…small business has more red tape and more compliance to follow. Now Centerlink will pay the business and the business will pay the person on leave. All small business wants is for Centerlink to directly pay the person on leave. But no! Again we have more complexity. Will the government never learn the simple needs of small business?”
The Abbott opposition and the Senate moved amendments for Centerlink to pay workers on leave directly, but this was rejected by the government. Who knows why?
