Strengthening Management Education for the Developing WorldgbsnonlineIconIconfacebookIcontwitterIconLinkedInIconYouTube

Greetings From Guy

Lisa Leander, GBSN’s Membership Officer, and I were among some 1,300 participants in the recent International Conference and Annual Meeting of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

What struck me most about the conference was growing interest in the developing world. At last year’s New York conference a lot of attention was paid to the globalization of management education, but the focus was mainly on the “BRIC” countries. This year, the focus widened from “emerging markets” to the developing world as a whole. Not only that, but for the first time in my experience, GBSN’s core tenet – how management education can reduce poverty – figured prominently.

Graduation Day for Agribusiness Entrepreneurs in KenyaEntrepreneurs/Graduates after the ceremony

By Nora Brown, GBSN COO
Last week I had the honor of participating in the first graduation ceremony for the newly launched Certificate Program in Management and Innovation for Agribusiness Entrepreneurs at USIU in Nairobi, Kenya. GBSN partnered with USIU on the development of locally relevant materials for the program and in January twelve new case studies were finalized, ready for use in the new program. Since so much of our work is focused on the inputs of new programs, I rarely have the pleasure of seeing the outputs.

The graduates were bubbling with enthusiasm and excitement about the new possibilities their business now held. The benefits of new knowledge were clearly mixed with the power of inspiration to provide the graduates with a feeling of empowerment, ready to go out and take on new challenges and achieve new success.Click here to read more
